Red Check
Hosting wants you to have the right hosting plan. We know
that if you have the right plan for the right price, we are well on
are way to making you happy and keeping you happy. For that reason,
we have created this Q &A section on how to choose the right
plan for your needs.
- There
are few things to consider when choosing the right hosting plan for
your needs.
Q. How much Disk Space do I need?
A. There is no one answer to this question, but
to give you an idea, we took 10 web pages that we chose randomly
and calculated the average page size. The average page size was 37
kilobytes. Let us break down the whole Bytes thing. 1000 Bytes = 1
Kilobyte, 1000 Kilobyte = 1 Megabyte. 1000 Megabytes = 1 GB and so
on. What does that mean? It means that with a 100 MB's worth of
disk space, you could have a web site that had 2702, 37 Kilobyte
pages. So if you want to host your personal home page and don't
need any bells or whistles, a 100 MB Plan would be plenty of space.
Now if your site is going to have allot of pictures, videos, music,
software or large data bases, you may want to consider a larger
plan.
Q. How much Transfer do I need (Bandwidth) ?
A. Once again, there is no easy question for
this, but the same rules apply for Bandwidth as disk space. Small
personal home pages will probably not need more than 750 MB of
bandwidth, unless you are a very popular person. Now, if you plan
to have allot of pictures, videos, music, software or large data
bases, you may want to consider a larger plan.
Q What is the difference between Linux and
Windows Plans?
A. Well when it comes to the way your site
appears on the World Wide Web, there really are none. They
basically do the same thing when it is all said and done. There are
some differences in the way things work. The big difference is the
price, Windows seems to be more expensive to set up and operate in
the realm of web hosting that is, Windows is far easier to operate
when it comes to your home computer. Also, some programming
languages that work on Windows, will not work on Linux and vice
versa. Some programs are written specifically for a particular
operating system. Some programs will work on both if the write kind
of modifications are made. All of our plans offer either Cpanel or
H-Sphere control panels and they are both excellent software.
Q. How do I choose between Linux and Windows
hosting plans?
A. That is easy, if you do not need to use
Windows dependent Databases or software, choose a Linux plan as
they are much less expensive, have many more features than Windows
hosting plans, offer more space and bandwidth for less money. The
average user would not need to anything other than a Linux Plan.
Also, There is much more free web software available for Linux.
Don't get us wrong, we sell Windows based hosting and it works
fine, it is just that Linux offers more bang for the buck. If you
program in a Windows Dependent Language, you will need a Windows
hosting plan.
Q. I use Microsoft Front Page, will it still work
on a Linux Plan?
A. Yes! All linux plans come with Front Page
Extensions that enable Front Page to work on Linux.
- To
sum it all up, we recommend that if this is the first time you have
ever needed web hosting, start small or medium. You can always
upgrade to a larger plan if you find the one you choose is not
adequate.
